Radiation induced abscopal antitumor effect

چکیده

Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that causes direct death of cells, however there number reports on anticancer effect radiotherapy, may be considered as tumor regression at sites are outside the irradiated volume, this phenomenon was called abscopal antitumor effect. The article presents results model study very aggressive ascitic mammary “Ehrlich ascites carcinoma” (EAC) used for study. First, one-step bilateral grafting EAC cells to mice hind extremities performed, following step formation contralateral nodes in hips. In 5 days after transplantation, right (target) node locally with 60Co gamma rays dose 30 Gy. growth left (non-target) and target watched during 20 irradiation. It found local irradiation Gy an early stage caused inhibition left, non-target from 10 49% relative control group bearing mice. order reduce burden model, impact fractionated single Gy, total studied. ability immune system transplanted tumors both hips respond antigenic stimulus following: mice, transected thighs subsequent gamma-ray stimulus; radiation doses crucial achieving effect; use complementary therapeutic methods, such targeted or immunotherapy, will increase probability achieving.

Radiation abscopal antitumor effect is mediated through p53.

The observation that radiation treatment to a local area of the body results in an antitumor effect for tumors distant to the radiation site has been termed the "abscopal effect." To understand the mechanism of this unusual phenomenon, we examined whether the effect was mediated through p53, a protein complex up-regulated in irradiated cells. Non-tumor-bearing legs of C57BL/6 (wild-type p53) an...

PD-1 Restrains Radiotherapy-Induced Abscopal Effect.

We investigated the influence of PD-1 expression on the systemic antitumor response (abscopal effect) induced by stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) in preclinical melanoma and renal cell carcinoma models. We compared the SABR-induced antitumor response in PD-1-expressing wild-type (WT) and PD-1-deficient knockout (KO) mice and found that PD-1 expression compromises the survival of tumor-...

Abscopal Effect of Radiation Therapy: Current Concepts and Future Applications

Radiation therapy is one of the most important treatment tools in cancer therapy. It has a wide variety of indications for many malignant tumors, mostly for local control, whether a curative or palliative outcome is the intent, or as preor post-operative treatment as either neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy. Radiation therapy is commonly used along with hormone therapy or chemotherapy. The full s...

A Case Report on Metastatic Thyroid Carcinoma: Radiation-induced Bystander or Abscopal Effect?

The effects of radiation on human tissues are not just local as once believed but they can appear even outside of the irradiated field [1-5]. Based on what has been published, both from in vitro and in vivo studies [6,7], it is known that those effects are at least regional. The irradiated tumor tissue may communicate, in some way, radiation effects to the not irradiated neighboring or distant ...

Radiation Induced Bystander Effect

Introduction: Radiation effects observed in cells that are not irradiated are known as non-targeted effects.  Radiation induced bystander effect (RIBE) as a kind of non-targeted effect has been introduced in recent  years.  RIBE  occurs  in  unexposed  cells  which  are  related  to  adjacent  or  distant  irradiated  cells.  RIBE  contradict with "target theory" which necessitates radiation tr...
